Key Stage 4 2019
New GCSE grades were introduced in 2017. These are assessed by a grading system which runs from a top grade 9 to a bottom grade 1. They are not directly comparable to the ‘old GCSE’ system which is assessed by grades A*-G. Comparisons with previous year’s results must be treated with caution.
16.08.2019 – Highfields A Level Students Celebrate Success
Mark Robins is heading to Oxford to study History and Spanish having achieved three A* grades and an A* in his Extended Project, whilst Isabel Bunting is going to Cambridge to study Archaeology. Other students achieving all A* or A grades spanned a wide range of subjects, and they are taking up university places ranging from Maths and the sciences, to Law, English, Philosophy and Music. In fact 31% of all grades achieved were A* or A, up from 22% in 2018.
Director of Sixth Form, Martin Flett said, “The fantastic work ethic of the Year 13 students, inspired by their skilful and dedicated teachers and support staff, has led to many excellent results. We are especially pleased that every one of the students who joined Highfields for sixth form from other schools is now heading for their first choice university. These students achieved 56% A* or A grades, which was really stunning, and their contribution to the atmosphere of our sixth form was strongly felt over the two years”.
Liz Cruise, the Assistant Head of Sixth Form, said “This year group has been hugely busy outside of their studies. Whether they have been mentoring younger pupils in school, working with charities for the homeless, or volunteering at Golding Grange, they have been so friendly, generous and pro-active, and it has made them a pleasure to deal with. We know these are qualities which will make a great impact wherever they work in the future.”
22.08.2019 – Highfields ‘Class of 2019’ GCSE Success
Head of Year 11, Lucy Hamrouge said, ‘These results represent the outcome of much hard work on the part of staff and students, and the support of parents. It is great to see so many of our young people achieving at the highest grades. Just as important is the pleasing progress that students from all starting points have made at Highfields, as we look to ensure we have given them the best possible platform for the future.’
Headteacher Andrew Marsh said “we are delighted for all of our students who got the results they so richly deserved. These results will enable them to progress, as planned, to their intended next steps in education, employment or training”.
