Munich School Trip – Looking Back

The Germanists visited Munich in July 2025.

Mrs Andrews (Head of German) took 27 students and two staff on a cultural visit to the Bavarian capital.
Highlights included a walking tour of the city, expertly guided by Mrs Andrews who gave great insights into the history of this fascinating city. Students appreciated the architecture of the Frauenkirche, Munich’s stunning cathedral and the Rathaus, the town hall with its famous Glockenspiel. A sunny day afternoon was spent at BMW Welt where students were able to see bikes and cars, old and new, and were able to understand the evolution of the motor vehicle and some of the complexities of automotive design. At the Deutsches Museum the aviation section took centre stage. Students learned how the two world wars accelerated the evolution of aeroplanes and how Germany was at the forefront of many innovations. Gastronomic delights included Kaffee und Kuchen and dinner in a local restaurant. On a very wet morning students took a guided tour of the famous Allianz stadium, Bayern Munich’s home ground, which was a highlight for many.
Students also visited the concentration camp at Dachau and learned more about this dark chapter in German history and memorial sites around the city to learn about how Munich remembers its past.
