Highfields School was founded in 1982 as a comprehensive school by the merger of Ernest Bailey Grammar School, Charles White Secondary Modern School, and The John Turner School in Darley Dale. The site of Charles White in Starkholmes became the 'lower site' of Highfields, while Ernest Bailey's was converted to the county council records offices. A new site was built to house the new 'upper site' at Lumsdale.
Below you will find some images from the Lumsdale site in it's very early days during construction, and from it's opening days of school life. We have also provided an article on the history of the school, written by Sixth Form student Cerys Parkin.
