20.11.2017 - England Athletics at Highfields

England Athletics were in school on Friday delivering Sports Hall athletics training to our Sports Leaders who are assisting at the primary school event to be held at Highfields on 8 December. These students have also been selected to officiate at the SSP finals at the ARC in February 2018 - all the training paid off!

 

England Cricketer Visit to Highfields

On Friday 10 November Lydia Greenway, England Cricketer for the Team Up Project, visited Highfields. Excellent sessions took place for the girls cricket teams at Highfields and some of our gifted and talented students in PE. Lydia gave a brilliant cricket master class for the students who engaged brilliantly with all the cricket workshops with excellence. Lydia has kindly agreed to come back in March for our Sports Leaders Awards evening.

 

13.10.2017 - PE Sport Apprentices

PE Sport Apprentices at Osmaston Primary School have been undertaking their first observation of the year - Mr Savage and Miss Gardner have received wonderful reports.

 

Small School Mini Soccer SSP Finals

On Tuesday 10 October Lea Primary represented Highfields at the small school Mini Soccer SSP finals and finished 8th. Brailsford Primary were the SSP winners.

 

During November we will have two visits to Highfields from high profile sporting stars. Lydia Greenway, England Cricket and Sports Journalist, will be visiting us on 10 November for the morning to lead a practical session for Highfields girls cricket players and a practical/theory session for Highfields Gifted & Talented students in PE. Joanne Jackson, Olympic bronze medallist in swimming, will spend the day at Highfields on 23 November working with the SEN Sky Living for Sport students 2017/18.

 

Benchball Practice

On Wednesday 11 October South Darley Primary School received Benchball Practice at the Primary Sports evening. This session was led by PE Apprentice, Mr Molyneux, and the Year 11 Girls Active Team.

02.10.2017 - SportsLeader Update

 

PE Apprentices

CPD PE Apprentices have had an excellent CPD session from County provider Dominic Limb on high quality PE delivery and the National curriculum. Our Apprentices were joined by the Apprentices from Erewash.

 

Combat Hub School Programme

On Wednesday 27 September our Year 9 and 10 classes took place for wrestling and fencing and are progressing well as a part of our Combat Hub school programme.

 

Rugby Development

Primary school staff and Highfields Sports Leaders took part in training on Wednesday by Rugby Development Officer, Sean Wright, in readiness for the primary school tag rugby season and tournaments. The Highfields Cluster Championship takes place on Friday 13 October.

 

South Darley Primary School Sports Session

Wednesday also saw Sports Leaders, Girls Active Leaders and Apprentices deliver an excellent sports session for South Darley Primary School. The sport covered in the evening was table tennis.

 

Highfields Primary Schools Playmaker Conference

On Thursday 28 September the Highfields Primary Schools Playmaker Conference was held. Year 5 and 6 students attended for a Sports Leaders UK Leadership Award. This marks the start of their leadership journey in our Sports Leadership Academy. All 44 students who attended have been trained and now return to their primary schools to complete the award over the year.

 

Highfields’ nominations for Derbyshire Schools’ Sports Awards

We are proud to announce that we have three students from Highfields nominated for awards – Julie Pritty, Alisha Bethell and Joel Rogers. In addition, Highfields School is nominated for an Active Schools Award and Derbyshire Sport are coming in to school to film next week – more details to follow.
